After careful deliberation the Santoft Forest and Beach organising committee has made the call to cancel the event for this year. Recent developments have shown that the Covid-19 risk is still very real, and it is a timely reminder that things can turn quickly, especially with most of winter still ahead.
We will confirm and share the details of the 2021 event as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
As the name suggests, the event is staged in the Santoft forest outside Bulls in the magnificent Rangitikei coastal countryside. Starting on the edge of the forest, your run/walk will include rolling forestry roads and (if you’re doing the Half Marathon) some pristine west coast beach terrain.
The Santoft Forest and Beach Adventure Run/Walk is brought to you as a fundraiser for the South Makirikiri School. Funds raised will go towards astro-turfing the school’s existing netball/tennis courts. This is an area of the school playground that facilitates a lot of play and learning, not just limited to netball and tennis. Once Astro-turfed it would provide a safer surface for all sports in all weather conditions and will become an area where teachers can take students for year round outdoor activities.
Our sincere thanks to forest managers Ernslaw One for granting us access to the Santoft forest for this event. A special thank you also to the Ohakea Rifle Range for granting one-off access to Half Marathon participants on race day.

Scott’s Ferry, Parewanui Road, Santoft.
All the event options will start on Forestry Road, c/o Forestry Rd and Parewanui Rd. Event parking is available a short walk away at Scott’s Ferry.
To get to the venue, head to Bulls and take Parewanui Road towards the coast, heading to Scott’s Ferry. The event location, registration and parking will be clearly marked.
A public parking space is provided in a field at the far end of Scott’s Ferry. While ample parking is available, we request that you consider the environment and carpool to the event as far as possible.

The three distance options in the Santoft Forest and Beach Run/Walk start and finish along the same forest track, with each distance traversing a different loop through the forest. Each distance option is made up of a single lap – no multiple laps to make up distance.
The 5km and 10km loops are fully contained within the Santoft Forest roads network, while the Half Marathon option includes a very special event-only loop through the Raumai Range, an area not accessible to the public, as well as an exhilarating stretch along the beach on the way back to the finish.
Please note that due to the nature of the course, all event distances are approximate.
Aid stations serving water and Hammer Endurolyte Fizz will be available at regular intervals : 3 drink stations along the course for the 21.1km, and 1 drink station about halfway for the 10km. The finish line aid station will have water, Hammer Endurolyte Fizz and fruit.
Race day refreshments
As part of its fundraising efforts, the parents of the South Makirikiri School are preparing delicious lunch packs that can be pre-ordered for delivery on the day – just what you need after a good workout! The image above are indicative of the lunch to be provided. Only 500 lunch packs will be available, so be sure to order yours when you enter online.
There will also be homemade food available to purchase on the day.
A coffee cart offering barista coffees and other refreshments will also be available on site.
Medals and prize-giving
Finishers medals will be awarded to finishers of all the event options in the Santoft Forest and Beach Half Marathon, 10 & 5km. Details to be announced.
Prize giving will commence at 1:30pm.
Spot prizes will be drawn and presented at prize giving. You have to be present to be eligible for a spot prize.
Male and female category winners in each event will be acknowledged in the following age categories:

Great grandmaster (70+)
As the majority of the course is run along sheltered forestry roads, a compulsory gear list is not specified. However, participants are reminded that spring conditions can be changeable – please consider the conditions and dress accordingly.
The entry date for our 2021 event will be announced in early 2021.
Late entries will be available at the start of the event.

10km Run/walk – $30.00 per person
5km Fun run/walk – $20.00 per person
Online entries close one week prior to the event. Late entries taken on the day.
Race bibs and registration handouts can be picked up Bivouac Outdoor, The Square Palmerston North at a date and time to be confirmed. Bibs not picked up at Bivouac Outdoor will be available for pick-up at the event venue from 8am on race day.
Distance changes, transfers and withdrawals
To minimise the administrative load, we would appreciate if participants do not swap between event distances. However, if you do need to change your event distance, please contact the Race Director with any transfer requests.
Distance changes up to (date to be confirmed) will not incur an additional admin fee. Please note, however, that there will be no refunds for changing to a shorter/cheaper distance option.
Any distance changes after (date to be confirmed) needs to be made during registration at the event venue on race day.
In the interest of personal safety, please do not change event distances on the day without informing an event official.
Entries are transferable to another runner/walker, but will incur a $10 admin fee. Please contact the Race Director for any participant transfers.
In the case of participants withdrawing from the event, entries will be refunded, minus an admin fee.
Withdrawals up to (date to be confirmed) will incur a $10 admin fee.
Withdrawals between (date to be confirmed) and (date to be confirmed) will incur a $20 admin fee.
After this date, no refunds will be given to participants wishing to withdraw. Please contact the Race Director if you need to withdraw from the event.
